Resonating 30 with Xia Feiyun

Resonating 30 with Xia Feiyun

SCO performs under the baton of Yan Huichang in an evening inspired by the musical legacy of Maestro Xia Feiyun, who influence has long been felt across orchestra’s repertoire and artistic journey. A distinguished collaborator of SCO and former student of Maestro Xia, Yan Huichang leads this reflective programme of beloved Chinese orchestral classics.

The concert features the ancient masterpiece The Moon on High, alongside a rearrangement of Theme of Pioneers, familiar to film lovers of classic Chinese kung fu movies. Audiences will also hear the suona concerto Warmheartedness, featuring soloist Jin Shiyi, a work from Northeastern China with strong operatic character that was premiered by SCO in 1999. The programme concludes with Liu Wenjin’s Rainbow, featuring sheng principal Guo Changsuo, who also performed at the work’s premiere with SCO in 2007.

Blending nostalgia with enduring artistry, this concert reflects on music that has accompanied SCO through the years and offers it, once more, as a tribute to the community.
