Resonating 30 with Tsung Yeh

    Resonating 30 with Tsung Yeh

Emeritus Conductor Tsung Yeh takes the centre stage with SCO in a resplendent concert that looks back on landmark works from his tenure as Music Director, music that continues to resonate with the orchestra today. The programme opens on a stirring note with Zhao Jiping’s Celebration Overture, an exhilarating favourite featured on SCO’s 2001 CD album.

The orchestra proudly presents Liu Xijin’s gaohu concerto Legend of the Merlion featuring soloist Li Baoshun who premiered the work with SCO in 1999 and returns to the stage for this SCO30 concert. A signature piece from SCO’s international tours, it has come to represent both the orchestra and Singapore abroad. Audiences can also look forward to the choral-orchestral masterpiece The Celestial Web, with music by Law Wai Lun and poetry by Tan Swie Han, commissioned by the Singapore Arts Festival and premiered under Tsung Yeh’s baton at the 2003 Festival Gala. Programme highlights also include dizi concerto Wilderness, featuring soloist Yin Zhiyang.

An evening that honours a remarkable artistic legacy, this concert is both a reflection of SCO’s journey and a gift of gratitude to the community that has supported it over the years.
